The news of Brunelleschi’s appointment was greeted with boos and tears by fans when he emerged on the steps of Renaissance HQ for a brief press conference.
The defender was Co-interim manager for a couple of games earlier this season while Coluccio attended The Shaman’s marriage in Australia, and has suffered a series of injury setbacks this season. He last played in Renaissance’s last victory against Team KR a few weeks ago.
“Nobody wants this,” he began as mothers wiped tears from their babies eyes, “I’ve taken on this responsibility only because a gun was held to my head but we have to move on and get on with the show.”
“As a team we’ve fallen well below our usual standards so we have to pull ourselves together and build confidence and form. I follow in a long line of great caretaker managers such as Ronnie Moran, Jimmy Gabriel and Rafa Benitez so if I’m half as successful as those giants I’ll be satisfied.
Brunelleschi’s first game in charge will be against The Mighty Quinns on Wednesday and he sounded a defiant note ahead of the clash. “With all due respect they’re the type of opposition we’d normally swat like an annoying gnat. We’ll be motivated for this one, no doubt.”
